Thankfulness – It starts with the little things

There are many verses in the Bible where Jesus mentioned those who are faithful in little will be faithful in much.. In the parable of the faithful servant he says “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” In Matthew 17:20 he says “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” I think if we see thankfulness as an act of faith, we can apply the same thought to thankfulness.

When you are too busy or going through struggles, it is important to take time to ‘be still’ and think of the little things. Paul wrote “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” No matter where you in life, I would think you can reflect back on something pure. Is there a memory from when things were simple that you long for? Maybe there is a person in your life that helps you smile and laugh when you are with them. I have found there is a since of calmness that comes when I pause and let myself remember little things that bring me joy. What little things have brought you a pure sense of love and laughter? Start with that and let your thankfulness grow from there. Don’t let your thankfulness for little things collect dust!
